Lake Serre-Ponçon
An emblematic lake
Lake Serre-Ponçon is France's largest artificial lake. The emerald-coloured waters, fed by the river Ubaye, glisten like a jewel nestled at the foot of the mountains.
It's a wonderful oasis of calm for those who enjoy swimming, water sports or just relaxing. Saint-Vincent-les-Forts beach, which is well equipped and supervised throughout the summer, has been awarded a Blue Flag (Pavillon Bleu) for the quality of its shores and water, and is a must-visit spot for all the family. For those looking for more secluded spots there are also lots of unspoilt, easily accessible coves.
Lake Serre-Ponçon is an unusual aquatic playground offering a wide range of activities, from gentle to more active pursuits, so you can enjoy the delights of the water in a setting that offers both a sense of escape and a change of scenery. It has a water park and pedalos with opportunities for water skiing, wakeboarding, canoeing, kayaking, tubing and stand-up paddle boarding. So, all that remains for you to do is get in the water!
Fishing enthusiasts have not been forgotten since the lake is particularly renowned for its pike and trout.
Finally, the area around the lake is teeming with activities: hiking paths, mountain bike trails, and bike circuits which are a great and alternative way of exploring the region's magical landscapes.
